What is Star TV?

Star TV is Star Telephone’s new service that enables us to transmit TV signals over your telephone lines. This uses a technology called IPTV (Internet Protocol Television). We use your existing telephone line to add video that is delivered directly to your home. No computer or complicated accessories are needed. The main thing you’ll need is a set top box that will open the doors to loads of quality programming and features at an affordable price!

What does the quality look like?

The quality is excellent.  By using digital technology (much better that the standard analog) the quality you will experience is much better than what you receive via an antenna or standard cable.

Will I need a new TV to view the Star TV service?

No.  The TVs you currently own will work just fine with Star TV.  In fact the old black and white TV you might have out in the garage will also work.  However, you might want to use Star TV as an excuse to go buy that 60-inch plasma that you have always wanted so you can view the full effect of the new service.

Will I be able to receive Star TV service?

Star TV is available in certain areas within the Star Telephone Company serving area. To find out if the service is available in your area, just visit our website found at www.stmc.net/startv and click on the availability link.  You will then be able to input your telephone number and we will contact you in approximately 10 working days letting you know if the service is available at your location.  You can also call 118 from any Star Telephone phone to speak to one of our customer service agents.  This is a free call.

If we establish that the Star TV service is not yet available in your area, we will take your information and have it added to a list to notify you when Star TV comes to your area.

What makes Star TV service different than the others?

Star TV is the convergence of telephone, Internet and television. Imagine getting your Caller ID on the television screen when someone calls you, or having an Interactive Program Guide that will let you set reminders, auto-tune to your favorite channel, and enable you to control what others in your household can watch. Star TV will also be bringing you a Digital Video Recorder that will digitally store your favorite programming and let you pause live TV.  In the future, we will be adding HD (High Definition) Service that will bring out the best in your High Definition television.

Will I need a digital settop at each TV in my home?

Yes.  Just like all digital entertainment services, a settop will be required to view Star TV.  The benefits of having a digital settop are the settop enables the use of the interactive programming guide and in the future purchase VOD (Video On Demand) movies and events.  As you have probably read in the news, the federal government is requiring all providers to move towards a digital format, thus requiring everyone to have settops.

Will I be able to use normal telephones and Internet service along with Star TV?

Yes, all three services can work together – normal telephone service, FireLine DSL, and Star TV are all compatible and can be delivered over one phone line to your home.  This means we will not have to dig up your yard and trench anything. What you have currently will work.

Will I need to pull a wire to each TV?

The installation of new wire to the settops will be needed. In some instances we might be able to use your existing homes’ wiring, however, an installation technician will come out to your home and determine what will be needed.  If you sign the 12-month contract, you will not pay any installation fees for up to two rooms/settops in your home.

Will I need to buy any equipment up front to make the Star TV service work?

No.  Star Telephone will provide everything you need to make the service work. This includes a cable to connect to your TV, a universal remote control, an IP modem, a surge protector at the modem, and an outside splitter.

Will I be able to view local channels?

Yes.  Local channels are included in every Star TV plan at no extra charge.

Will Star TV offer any premium channels like HBO?

Yes.  The Star TV service will offer suites (or tickets) of premium movie channels as well as adult channels.  You have the ability to choose the premium movie channel ticket you want.  We offer HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, Starz & Encore.  When you buy a ticket, you will get all the premium channels that reside in the ticket, not just one channel. So, if you want to buy the HBO ticket, you will receive 8 HBO channels.

Will I be able to get the Star TV service billed on my current television bill?

Yes. All your services will be billed on one, easy to understand, monthly statement.

Will you offer Star TV in a bundle so I can get a discount?

Yes.  Star TV will be offered at a reduced rate if you purchase a Star Complete Bundle.  You can bundle your local telephone service and Star TV, or bundle local telephone, FireLine DSL high-speed Internet, and StarTV.  You can choose what package suits your lifestyle.

If my location qualifies for Star TV, am I required to subscribe to any other services?

Yes.  All of our customers will be required to subscribe to basic local telephone service.  Other than that, you can pick and choose what features, packages, services, or bundles best suit your needs.
